American Massage Therapy Assocation

Kansas Chapter

Senate Bill 572 Introduced

We are ready to move forward again with this first step, and while somewhat challenging, the good news is that we have been down this road before, will be well prepared and supported by our own national association staff, ABMP Government Relations, Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, (as they are housed  here in Kansas) and our government relations consultant, with us from the start of our process. We have reached out to KATMB, in hopes of meeting together to discuss commonalities , and or agreement that we can move together in concert to best serve the greater good.

In Kansas, we must pass the Sunrise Process successfully, which requires us, (the profession) to meet certain criteria showing the need for regulation of our profession (we are seeking licensure) Sunrise, very simply stated, means IS there a NEED to regulate to avoid public harm, versus the HOW do we regulate *the HOW TO regulate comes in the form of creating a draft bill.

Understanding the difference between the two steps is important for us, and this is one reason alone, that we are truly grateful for our support team in place, as they have been through this process before...many time.

As we progress, we will keep you informed of time-lines, participation requests (perhaps to attend a hearing in the later fall)

Please feel free to call upon me anytime.
